So I designed a wildcat a while ago but shelved it. That is until I saw the 50 AB I'll keep it a little vague but suffice to say it'll be big and have the potential to be deer legal whilst subsonic. The progress will be slower than C18rch's due mainly to deployments but I thought I'd do a step by step. The cartridge will headspace on the mouth and from guesstimates/talking to C18rch I should have enough brass to do this. My parent cases arrived today and I took them straight to my mate to machine down to 51mm. Once that's done I can work out if this is even feasible These are the cases pre-trimming:

IF I have enough mouth to headspace on and IF I can fit the intended diameter bullet in it'll certainly slap them down....IF my FEO lets me

I dunno about progress being slower. Mine has stalled until I get the reamer.

Where you order from?
Mine's biggest hurdle is getting it on my chit. After that it's just money and I don't mind sacrificing other niceties

The is the drawing. I am expecting the external case mouth diameter to be larger as QuickDesign predicted the diameter shown based on original case mouth wall thickness. We shall see next week.

Well hopefully it won't be long now. It's frustrating as its a part you'll likely only use once!

So, I've hit a problem. Case mouth wall thickness is 0.1mm which is nowhere near enough to headspace on I don't think.
Now this wildcat is designed to work in something roughly approximating a WSM action so I guess the next step is to shorten it down a little more to work in a WSSM action and hope that gives enough brass to headspace on.

Yeah, that's a bit too thin. Mine are 0.014" or 0.37mm.
You can headspace off the extractor depending on the rifle, but it's not advisable. That's partly why I went 300 ultra mag. I can cut it short to give me the brass thickness and still have a reasonable sized case.

Well unfortunately I'm nipping away next week with work but when I'm back I can trim one of the cases down till I get to where I'm happy with headspace area.
I can then work with that length to see what it'll do.

Shortened one of the cases down (crudely) and I'm getting around 0.3mm wall thickness at 41mm case length. When I get back from deployment I think I'll take the cases down 1mm at a time on a lathe till I'm at 0.4mm wall thickness. Measurements are a little rough since I'm pre-occupied but this wildcat looks feasible once again
