I have been asked by Glenn to host a 2016 long range weekend for Varminting UK. So the new improved schedule is:
• Friday 17th June - Arrive anytime at Roundhouse Firearms Training, Indoor .22 Shooting and BBQ from 18.30
• Saturday 18th June - Mid Range Precision Rifle (100 to 650 yards) - 09:00 to 15:00
• Saturday Afternoon/Evening - Coached Clay Pigeon Shooting (£20 per 100) & Main BBQ
• Sunday 19th June - Long Range Precision Rifle (800 to 1,600 yards) - 08:30 to 14:30
The weekend is limited to 24 shooters and you will have full access to camping facilities and basic bunkhouse accommodation Friday and Saturday nights.
This is a less formal zeroing and development weekend, as opposed to a full Roundhouse Rifle Challenge - although you will require 5x .22lr rounds for the 300 yard egg challenge on Saturday (.22lr estate rifles available, if required) and 10 rounds on Sunday, for a 1 moa first round challenge.
Targets on both days will be reactive steels of various sizes (1" to full size roe deer) and other suitable targets. You are welcome to arrive early and place your own approved targets in position. A perfect opportunity to shoot a witnessed target to add to your collection (please advise in advance).
The weekend is being held at Roundhouse Firearms Training, which is located near Launceston, Cornwall. Please contact Tiff for further directions and for security reasons do not advertise the location publicly once known.
The legal requirements for the weekend are fairly straight forward: The rifle you use on the day must be your own and be conditioned for field shooting - i.e fox, deer or AOLQ & for zeroing over ground you have permission on etc. There will be no sharing of rifles. You must have your own valid shooting insurance and not be subject to a 'mentoring condition', unless accompanied by your mentor. Lathe turned bullets are not permitted and FMJ's are not to be used on targets beyond 500 yards, due to the increased ricochet & fire risks associated with their construction. This will all be checked on the day.
The ground is cleared for fullbore by D&C Constabulary, so an open or closed FAC is ok. Permission to zero will be granted on a daily basis, just like paid stalking etc. The emphasis is on the shooter to be a safe shot and follow safe shooting practice, being responsible for every shot and every moment handling their firearm.
I'm already looking forward to it and hope you are too,
Tiff
