Did my first ever three CSR comps on Sunday using my 'virgin' AR15....brilliant CoF but knackering !!!
The run-downs really take your wind and shooting straight suddenly becomes very hard!
REALLY need to get more non-prone practice.
I will be back!
Wonder if the MQC would be fun with an AR?

Yes I find CSR particularly gruelling with my dodgy knees and knackered back! Takes all the fun out of it for me so I don't do it. I'm sure an AR would be great to shoot at the MQC. Strictly no fmj though. :-)

That GGG stuff is cheap but shoots around 4 moa in mine.....I am handloading 77g SMKs so no danger of steel penetrators!
Trouble is you can easily lose 50 cases in the 'scrum' so cheap brass is best!

The run down timings have been extended from 30 secs to 45 secs for 100 yards, it's nearly a walk lol, mind you there were a few on Sunday! GGG brass is pretty good to reload but you have to swage the primer pockets, not such a chore if the brass is free. Quite a few competitors (myself included) use milsurp/factory fodder at 100 and 200 yards then use the brass for reloads. Glad you enjoyed it Dave, weather certainly helped.

Weather was certainly good ....not looking forward to those rainy day sessions!
GGG brass is surprisingly good and a damned site cheaper than Lapua even if you pull the bullets and chuck everything else away before reloading!

For the short ranges of CSR, I think GGG is fine. Works great in my .223 out to 500, but then for some reason won't even stay on a standard target at 600. My .223 is shot out though so I suspect the rough barrel is causing it to go unstable early. Just waiting to get it re-barrelled once I've finished the .50 AB.
Contemplating doing the next CSR though. It still groups 2 moa with GGG out to 500 which is good enough to have a bit of fun at the CSR comps.
AR would be fine at the MQC. Considering building one for CSR and MQC. Looking for cheap parts, again though it may have to wait until after the .50 AB.

I stopped using GGG because I could not get a 100 yard zero that I could believe in with any confidence.
Reloaded with 77g SMK it is great stuff.
Having said that and until I improve my non-prone performance (trying hard!) ...the GGG accuracy would be fine for CSR targetry.
I am just happier that wayward shots are down to me rather than the ammo.

I will miss the November CSR shoot as I am in Spain but for December 'I'll be back!'

Be nice to meet some of you guys there next time out?

Too much rushing around for my taste but can be a lot of fun if you have a light rifle and can follow it with a few days of "recovery time" :-)

True ....but the unbridled joy of the 100 to 200 yard 'assault' stage where you have carte blanche to fire as many rounds as you can in a minute (multiplied by all the shooters in the detail) certainly creates an interesting soundtrack!

Ooooh bring tears to my eyes thinking about all that erosion on my match barrels ;-P I think you have to make a full commitment by buying a dedicated big mag black rifle to find it anything more than a day of frustration. Though I do appreciate your enthusiasm lol Id be happy to do it again but with a borrowed AR rifle.......

Its a lot of rounds but only about 24g of powder per bang....barrels must be good for 5000+ and ultimate precision requirement not in 'belly gunner' terms anyway.
Have to say that accuracy is much better than I had expected from what I thought would be a spray and pray gun.
I just do it for variety.
