Alright chaps,
I'm a bit of a technical dumb ass so this may sound stupid but I dont know.
Is there a reason that you guys use muzzle brakes instead of mod's? I know that they reduce recoil but so does a mod. they do not reduce noise as far as im aware so is it an accuracy thing?
Cheers,
Ben.

Ben, I'll take you up on that offer someday, then you can try the 338 with and without a brake and mod. Then you'll understand why. Mods heat up very quick on the big stuff, creating mirage, brakes don't. Mods also don't reduce it as much as a brake, not really too much of an issue on a 308, though is handy to help keep on aim during the shot. But essential on a 338 or bigger, mike also shoots .50BMG, you really wouldn't want to do that without a brake. Regards Pete www.varmintinguk.co.uk

Pete has covered it well, apart from my 338 and 50bmg, the brake on my 308 is my only other, basically it allows me to maintain a sight picture after the shot and enables me to establish fall of shot.
It reduces recoil vastly and makes it very pleasant to shoot, especially when shooting 200+plus rounds in a session.
Mike
ps it also annoyes the hell out of TR shooters on the point :-)

Great stuff guys, Good answers there. As I said I have never fired a rifle with a muzzle brake so was interested in why they are used.
Thanks Guys,
Ben.

Cheers Glenn,
Been reloading for a few years now and I never take risks with it but the main reason I went for the remmi 700 is the amount of after market gear you can get for them so I want to make some additions and alterations over time so I will need advice on which item is good at the job and good value for money.
As I have said I've never fire a single round on a range I am fox and varmint through to the core but I still want accuracy so I think I will be looking at a trigger change, maybe a re-crown, stock bedding etc etc. I would like to reach out to 1000yds one day but I need some practice for that.
Thanks,
Ben.

Thanks, Ben. You'll need all those aftermarket parts too. Sell it and get a tikka/Sako. Won't need aftermarket bits then 1000 yds is easy buddy, and you might get out that far on your land if it's all like that pic I saw. But as Glenn says, if tiff runs another RRC, come along, try 1500 then Regards Pete www.varmintinguk.co.uk

Evening Guys,
I have heard that some people have trouble with the 700's but mine will shoot with my mates tikka varmint anyway but I want to set it up for me as I want it. I have a thumbhole stock on it which I love and I know some people hate them but as I'm sure you guys will agree its all to do with what suits you as a shooter. New scope is next then trigger unit and see where I'm at.
Cheers, Ben.
